Automatic

In Automatic watches, the wining is done through the conversion of kinetic energy into potential. In other words, the movement of the hand and watch cause an off-balance weight to move around in a circular path. The shaft from the weight is attached to a non-reversing gear which prevents the cancellation of the winding mechanism. As the weight moves, the mainspring of the watch is wound up. When the mainspring reaches a full wound position, a similar mechanism to a car’s clutch disengages the weight shaft from the mainspring and stops overwinding.

The Automatic watches of today are advances pieces of engineering, and are among the most expansive watch types on the market. An automatic watch marries the convenience of automation with the craft and beauty of mechanics.
